Lovers Pond - by Gavin Seim, 2011.

May 21st dawned well, but was not a perfect day. The drizzle started at around 1PM, just a few hours before Chris and Ashlee’s wedding, outdoors. But that didn’t stop the day from moving forward. And I wounder. What better irony for a wedding day than a reminder that things don’t always go as we plan.

Ashlee & Chris were a great couple and it was cool sharing the day with them and their family. You may have have seen the sneak peak video I posted from their wedding and if you really pay attention, you’ll even remember their engagement photos that we made last fall. Chris just graduated from med school and the two of them just moved to Arizona where he’s doing his internship. Exciting times and big changes in their new life.

The thing is it all turned out stunning. We moved inside and had a stunning ceremony under the warmth of incandescent lights and floating Chinese lanterns. In truth there were so many memorable images to chose from that I had to be particular in designing the album and in the end, Ashlee & Chris will be getting this beautifully bound storybook volume with all 38 of these double page spreads. I’ll also be making them one of my 36inch heirloom canvas of this first image and it will look stunning framed on the wall of their new apartment.

This was a neat wedding and I wanted to post it sooner. Kelly & Steele have been super busy however, so I held off so they could have some time to review. You may recall that I posted Kelly & Steel’s e-session a few months back (you can see it here). I was looking forward to the big day at Hidden Meadow. It’s this great venue outside of Moses Lake, but ironically this was my time there, so I was eager to take it on.

I was there early, even before the couple. That was OK because it gave me a chance to scope out the landscape. And what a beautiful landscape it was. It really is a hidden meadow. I’m driving down this gravel road in the Central WA desert thinking “this is a wedding venue”, when all the sudden there it was. Acres and acres or perfectly groomed oasis ready for a party.

The day went really well, as did the resulting photos. After the beautiful ceremony on the main lawn, we went right into a huge party with lots of good food and LOTS of dancing, including live music by Foolish Fortune. They did a really great job.

I love a real, non staged capture of the bouquet toss. Along with many other favorites, I think the Kelly’s bouquet (see below) is my all time favorite toss photo. It just really nailed the feeling. There’s so many I like though and it was hard to narrow them down for the album I designed for Kelly & Steele. You peek at their wedding album below, as well as a few other faves. Jayme, Brandon and their family were great. This is one of those weddings that was a lot of work, but a real pleasure. From early morning to late evening and even a trash the dress session the following week. Jayme & Brandon were into it and that makes amazing things happen. It seemed we were all over the Wenatchee Valley taking photos (including the crazy cool wakeboard images on the river). The ceremony was at Highlander Golf Club, which was incredible. For a light fanatic like myself, it’s hard to beat the sweeping sunset view of the valley that we had from Highlander during the ceremony and reception.

Jayme & Brandon have 68 pages of memories in their album to go along with a stunning 36in canvas of the image above. I also surprised them with my new Fusion slideshow. I won’t explain it here, but if you know Jayme & Brandon well, you’ve probably already heard about it. You can see it as well the complete proof gallery via the links above. A few weeks ago I had a great wedding for Mike and Jessica at Cave B Estate (near Ellensburg WA). I was joined by my buddy Matt, from Shumate Photography who helped out as my second shooter. Jess and Mike just couldn’t seem keep their hands off each other ;) so we kept on the go with lots of great moments.

Creation is awesome. The day started with some stunning distant clouds. About the time everyone was prepped it had started pouring down rain. While rain on a wedding day is not ideal, I was determined to make good use of it. Jessica needed to get to the main lobby to see Mike for the first look. I found her an umbrella and she and Gina ran from the getting ready room down to the main lobby. I ended up lying on the ground in the rain shooting like crazy and having a blast. My white slacks got wet and dirty and my camera got soaked (it’s still working) but the results made a great addition to their collection.

The rest of the day was no less successful. The rain stopped just before the ceremony started. Rain in this area is often quick and this was just perfect. It was cool but not cold and the clouds, now moving away made a breathtaking backdrop for their outdoor ceremony. We even snuck off for some evening shots of the Cave B bluffs around sunset. More of those in the album.

All in all the day was a huge success. Jess and Mike have returned from a great honeymoon in Costa Rica and were just in for their proofing. I’m stoked about their images and they loved them too. Thad & Misty… The Album.

Here’s a great wedding I photographed for Misty & Thad. They had their big day at this neat old estate on Lake Chelan. We even went out on the lake in the evening for some of those hot romance images. This was a little crazy, because I was driving the boat too! They were kissing while I was shooting and steering. Misty and Thad were great though and I think you’ll agree the results are too.
